Parboiled Long Grain

White Sella Rice

Premium parboiled white sella variety — non-sticky, fluffy texture. Preferred for biryanis, bulk food service, and Gulf catering.

About White Sella Rice

White Sella Rice is a parboiled long-grain variety that undergoes a special soaking and steam-pressure process before milling. This gives the grains a slightly translucent, glassy appearance with exceptional cooking stability.

The resulting rice is completely non-sticky when cooked, with individual grains remaining perfectly separated. Ideal for biryanis, pilaf, fried rice, and large-scale catering operations.

Rice Processing Types Explained

We process raw paddy into four distinct commercial forms based on customer specifications and regional culinary styles.

Raw (Brown/White)

Minimal milling process where only the outer hull is removed. Retains natural nutty flavor, vitamins, and texture. Popular for organic and health segments.

Aromas Retained

Steam Rice

Steaming pressure is applied to paddy grains before milling. Steaming makes the starch inside firm and minimizes grain breakage during de-husking and polishing.

Low Breakage

White Sella (Parboiled)

Paddy is soaked, pressurized with steam, and dried before milling. Grains turn glassy, stay completely separated when cooked, and have a long shelf life.

Non-Sticky Grains

Golden Sella

An extended parboiling treatment that gives the grains a rich golden hue. Highly durable, retains nutrients deep in the core, and is preferred for catering.

Home Our Process Quality Control
Standards & Testing

10-Step Quality Control Process

We follow a strict multi-layer testing system ensuring every grain meets the highest international standards before shipment.

1

Raw Material Procurement

Paddy is sourced directly from verified farmers in the Taraori-Karnal-Kurukshetra belt of Haryana, globally renowned as the ultimate Basmati cradle.

2

Pre-Processing Inspection

Every incoming load is checked for grain moisture levels, seed purity percentages, broken content, and foreign organic matter before receiving approval.

3

3-Month Aging (Authentic Curing)

Basmati grains are cured in clean, temperature-controlled warehouses for at least 3 months to reduce moisture, concentrate starch, and mature natural fragrances.

4

Advanced Automated Milling

Using 3 fully-automatic production lines, husks are gently separated, followed by grain whitening, grading, and multi-stage polishing.

5

In-Process Quality Supervision

Milling machinery outputs are tracked 24×7. Qualified QA operators supervise parameters hourly to maintain process consistency.

6

In-House Laboratory Testing

Our mill's testing laboratory checks samples for precise grain length (AGL), moisture percentage, broken limit compliance, and structural density.

7

Pesticide Residue Assessment

Specifically for Pesticide Residue Free (PRF) orders, lots are analyzed by accredited labs to verify strict compliance with European Union MRL levels.

8

Packaging Conformity Audit

Every single bag is checked for seal strength, correct brand prints, legal labels, and precise weight matching before sealing.

9

Pre-Shipment Inspection (Third Party)

At the customer's request, we coordinate independent audits by leading global surveyors (SGS, Bureau Veritas, or Cotecna) before container dispatch.

10

Export Documentation Compliance

Full phytosanitary, fumigation, COO, and lab compliance paperwork is issued to ensure smooth transit and clearance at the destination port.

How to Import Rice from India

Step-by-step guide to sourcing, compliance & shipment

12 min

Why India?

India is the world's largest rice exporter, accounting for 40%+ of global exports. Varieties like Basmati (1121, Pusa, Sella), Parboiled, and Non-Basmati IR-64 are globally sought for quality and price competitiveness.

India exported 21.2 million MT of rice in 2023 — a world record.

Step-by-Step Import Process

01
Identify Variety & Specification

Decide rice type (Basmati / Non-Basmati / Parboiled), broken %, moisture, grain length, aroma, and packaging (PP bags / Jute / Vacuum).

02
Find & Verify Exporter

Use APEDA's online exporter directory, verify IEC (Import Export Code), RCMC, and request lab reports (SGS / Bureau Veritas).

03
Negotiate Contract Terms

Agree on price (FOB/CIF/CFR), payment terms (LC/TT/DP), grade, quantity, packaging, and delivery timeline.

04
Get Pre-shipment Inspection

Hire an independent inspection agency (SGS, Intertek, CCIC) for quality check at the port/warehouse before shipment.

05
Arrange Shipping & Freight

Book FCL (Full Container Load) or LCL. Standard: 20ft = 25 MT, 40ft High Cube = 27 MT bagged rice.

06
Customs Clearance at Destination

Submit Bill of Entry, pay import duty, obtain phytosanitary clearance, and arrange local transportation.

Key Compliance Checkpoints

  • FSSAI standards for pesticide residue limits
  • Phytosanitary Certificate from NPPO India
  • Certificate of Origin (CoO) for preferential duty
  • SGS / Intertek quality report
  • Bill of Lading (Original 3 sets)

Rice HS Code Guide

Complete Harmonized System codes for all rice varieties

What is an HS Code?

Harmonized System (HS) codes are 6-digit (internationally) to 8-digit (India) numerical codes used to classify traded products worldwide. Customs duties, export incentives (RODTEP), and eligibility for preferential tariffs all depend on using the correct HS code.

Wrong HS code can cause shipment delays, customs fines, or loss of export incentive benefits.

Rice Packaging Guide

Standards, materials, and labelling requirements for export

11 min

Packaging as Brand Trust

Packaging is the first physical touchpoint for buyers. Proper packaging prevents moisture ingress, pest infestation, and spillage — directly impacting shelf-life. For export, APEDA and FSSAI prescribe specific standards.

Poor packaging causes 3–8% quality loss on long-haul sea shipments.

Mandatory Label Requirements (Export)

  • Product name & variety (e.g., "Indian Basmati Rice 1121 Sella")
  • Net weight in kg — destination country standards
  • Country of Origin: "Product of India"
  • Manufacturer / Exporter name & address (IEC number)
  • Manufacturing date & Best Before date
  • Batch / Lot number for traceability
  • Nutritional information per 100g (mandatory EU/UK/USA)
  • Allergen declarations if applicable

Rice Container Loading Guide

FCL loading, stowage, ventilation & weight limits

10 min

Why Container Loading Matters

Rice is hygroscopic — it absorbs and releases moisture. Container desiccants, ventilation liners, and proper bag stacking are non-negotiable. Improper loading leads to cargo damage, mold, and rejection at the destination port.

Improper container loading causes 2–5% rejection rate at GCC ports.

Container Capacity Guide

Loading Best Practices

01
Container Inspection

Check for rust, holes, previous cargo residue, and smell. Reject damaged containers. Use ISO-certified containers only.

02
Dunnage & Liner Setup

Place PP/kraft paper liner on floor. Use container desiccant bags (Absortech / Dri-Z-Air) — minimum 6 bags per 20ft container.

03
Stacking Pattern

Stack in cross-pattern (brick-bonding). Max 8–10 bags height for 25kg bags. Never exceed container payload limit.

04
Ventilation

Use ventilated containers where possible. Open container vents. Avoid loading in high-humidity conditions (>70% RH).

05
Seal & Document

Apply ISO 17712-compliant bolt seal. Record seal number in Bill of Lading and Packing List. Photograph before departure.

We handle all container logistics from mill to port.

Documentation = Deal Protection

Export documentation errors cause 23% of trade disputes globally. For rice, which involves phytosanitary, quality, and customs compliance across multiple jurisdictions, every document must be accurate, consistent, and timely.

A single document error can hold cargo for 2–3 weeks and cost $5,000–$50,000.

FOB vs CIF Explained

Incoterms 2020 decoded for rice buyers & sellers

8 min

Why Incoterms Matter More Than Price

Incoterms® 2020 (International Commercial Terms) define who pays for freight, insurance, and customs — and exactly when risk transfers from seller to buyer. The wrong incoterm can cost you hundreds of dollars extra per container.

FOB vs CIF can mean a $200–$800 difference per container for the identical goods.

Other Key Incoterms for Rice Trade

  • CFR (Cost & Freight): Like CIF but no insurance obligation on seller
  • EXW (Ex Works): Buyer picks up from seller's factory — maximum buyer risk
  • DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): Seller delivers to buyer's door, pays all — maximum seller risk
  • DAP (Delivered at Place): Seller delivers to named place, buyer clears customs
  • FCA (Free Carrier): Risk transfers at inland depot, not at port
We quote both FOB and CIF terms.

Letter of Credit Guide

Secure rice trade payment — LC types, process & best practices

13 min

Why LC Is the Gold Standard

A Letter of Credit (LC) is a bank's guarantee to pay the exporter upon presentation of compliant shipping documents. It eliminates non-payment risk for exporters and guarantees document compliance for importers. Over 60% of international rice deals use LC.

LC reduces payment default risk by 98% compared to open account terms.

LC Process Flow

01
Sales Contract Signed

Both parties agree on rice specs, quantity, price (CIF/FOB), and payment via LC with agreed terms.

02
Buyer Opens LC

Buyer's bank (Issuing Bank) issues LC to Seller's bank (Advising Bank) via SWIFT MT700 message.

03
Exporter Reviews LC

Critically review ALL LC terms: port names, dates, description, tolerance clauses. Request amendments for any discrepancy.

04
Ship Goods & Collect Documents

Load rice, get BL, invoice, CoO, phytosanitary, quality certificates exactly per LC requirements.

05
Present Documents to Bank

Submit docs to Advising Bank within LC validity — typically within 21 days of Bill of Lading date.

06
Bank Negotiates & Payment Released

Bank examines docs (5 banking days). If compliant, payment is released. Discrepancies may be waived by buyer.

We are experienced with LC transactions globally.

Our trade finance team ensures zero-discrepancy document submission.

Quality Is Everything in Rice Trade

Rice quality inspection at source protects both buyer and seller from disputes. Independent agencies test physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Failing standards can result in rejection at destination, financial penalties, and permanent blacklisting.

72% of rice trade disputes are quality-related. Pre-shipment inspection reduces this by 89%.
